New Year Festival
We have many festivals but Sinhala and Tamil new year is my most favorite one. New Year usually falls on 13th or 14th of April. It celebrated by Sinhala and Tamil people. This festival is very important to both of us. It is celebrated in Sri Lanka in April. It shows Unity, Happiness and New beginnings. During the Sinhala and Tamil new year, We clean our houses and wear new clothes. People cook traditional food and sweets like Kavum, Kokis, Dodol, Munkarali and Asmi. We shared food and happiness. People are very happy on this day. The firecrackers and goon swing. It is a special cultural festival in Sri Lanka. We also light the oil lamp with our family and started new activities together. Children enjoy playing games with family and friends. I like this festival because it brings everyone together. There is no work or school and families spend time with love and joy. The Sinhala and Tamil new year teaches us to respect our culture and live in peace with others.
